Tammies Jammies Helping Kids at Christmas

In Community, Local

Tammies Jammies is once again calling out for donations.

Tammies Jammies was initiated by Port Hope Police Constable Tammie Staples several years ago.

Constable Staples’s (Tammie) idea was to have a pair of jammies for children in need.

Through community support, Tammies Jammies has been an astounding success, with media supporting it from Toronto.

Ganaraska Financial Credit Union offices on Queen Street in Port Hope on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 held the kick-off for the event and welcomed members of the people to join in the celebration.

Kathy Foster who is Chief Executive Officer with Ganaraska Financial Credit Union said they were honoured to help support Tammies Jammies by donating 205 pairs of pajamas.

“It’s very heartwarming that we live in such a great community. I’m very fortunate that we have a great staff and Board of Directors that gives us the opportunity to give back to our community.”

Throughout the evening people were dropping off pajamas and getting them with the infectious smile was Tammie who thanked each person for their support.

Every year Tammie sets the goal at one pair of jammies and it just goes up from that point.

With the donation from Ganaraska Financial Credit Union to kick-off the event, Tammie was thrilled.

Tammie remembers Christmas Eve when she was younger and you only goto open one gift – and that was a pair of pajamas.

“I still do that tradition with my own family.”

Tammies Jammies has grown from 100 pairs to 1,500 over the years.

“This community is amazing, the surrounding communities are amazing. It’s phenomenal.”

A proceeds are going to The Children’s Foundation
