Cobourg’s Kade Whelan and Port Hope’s William Beebe recently captured the Ontario Hockey Federation U13 AAA championship with the Quinte Red Devils.

Quinte advanced to the provincial showdown in Waterloo after winning the Ontario Minor Hockey Association championship and took on opponents from Northern Ontario, Eastern Ontario, Greater Toronto and ALLIANCE leagues.

It took until game three for the Red Devils to secure a victory before winning six straight to clinch the OHF title. Their only defeat was 4-1 at the hands of the Toronto Marlboros in the opening contest.

On the final day, Quinte edged the Marlboros 2-1 to win the championship and hand the Toronto opponent its only loss of the tournament. Beebe registered an assist in the win.

In the semifinals, Whelan had an assist in a 3-0 victory over the host Waterloo Wolves.

Whelan scored six goals in six round-robin games, including two in a 3-1 win over Ottawa to conclude preliminary play. His other goals came in the opening loss to Toronto, a 3-3 tie against Waterloo, a 4-2 win over the Huron-Perth Lakers and a 9-1 victory over the North Bay Trappers.

Beebe scored twice against North Bay and tallied a single marker in the tie against Waterloo.

The Red Devils also defeated the Kenora Thistles 5-1.
