Cramahe Township Family Grateful After Firefighters Rescue Moose (the dog) from Little Lake

The owners of a dog named Moose are extremely grateful for the efforts of the Cramahe and Brighton Fire Departments.

On Thursday, December 4, 2025, Moose who is just over nine-months old was let out of the family home on Lake Road in Cramahe Township.

Just a few days ago there was water on Little Lake, but with the cold temperatures the water has turned to ice.

Alaina said her families dog Moose just being a pup it’s his first time being around ice the family tries to be very careful. They always watch Moose when they let him out. Alaina said one of her children became distracted only for a moment, but that was enough time for Moose to run out onto the ice and fall through.

The family called 9-1-1 after seeing Moose struggling to get back onto the ice.

Cramahe Township Fire Department arrived quickly and when it was discovered that Moose was too far out, Brighton Fire Department was called for assistance.

With Alaina and her family watching from the shoreline, firefighters donned ice water rescue suits and went out onto the ice.

Moose almost seemed to know the firefighters were there to help and he was brought to shore.

Shortly after the family brought him to a local vet for treatment.

“His internal team was 32 degrees and the vet told us they were very surprised he held on that long in the water,” said Alaina.

Moose stayed at the vets for most of the day, but was brought back home in the evening after his adventure.

Alaina said her father was very close to Moose. He passed away in July, but she knows he was there helping Moose until firefighters arrived.

“I can’t thank them enough for what they did. They all worked together quickly and treated Moose like a important life. My family are very grateful for both Cramahe and Brighton Fire Departments for saving him.”
