In Local

One person was taken to hospital following an early morning garage fire in Brighton on Monday, April 6, 2026.

Fire crews were dispatched to 148 Main Street at approximately 6 a.m., where they were met with heavy smoke coming from the structure.

Brighton Fire Department Captain Adam McCurdy said conditions were intense upon arrival.

“We had very heavy smoke conditions on arrival. Upon entry, we encountered flames and smoke inside the garage,” said McCurdy.

Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters were able to move in quickly and bring the fire under control.

“Our crews did an amazing job pushing forward and quickly knocking down the fire,” he added.

Garages can often pose additional risks due to unknown contents, but McCurdy confirmed there were no vehicles inside at the time of the fire.

One person was transported to hospital as a precaution. There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
