Neighbours Helping Neighbours Battle Combine Fire in Municipality of Brighton

In Editor Choice, Local

Brighton Fire and Rescue responded to a combine fire on Friday, November 4, 2022.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. firefighters responded from Station 1 and 2 to a combine fire on Telephone Road west of County Road 30.

Firefighters were just leaving a house fire in Cramahe Township and crews also responded from that location.

Thick, black smoke could be seen from several kilometres away indicating a working fire.

When crews arrived on scene, the combine was engulfed in flames and the fire was spreading throughout the cornfield.

Firefighters concentrated their efforts on flames that were spreading throughout the cornfield.

Cramahe Township Fire Department was also called and Trent Hills Fire Department were called for standby in Brighton.

When area farmers saw the fire and the cornfield on fire, they also rushed with their equipment to help in the battle.

Brighton Fire Chief Gene Thompson said it was a a case of “neighbours helping neighbours.”

“It was an amazing community effort by neighbouring farmers helping each other out along with neighbouring fire departments. It was a true community effort.”

The combine was totally destroyed by the fire, but thanks to the hard work of neighbouring farmers and fire departments the damage to the field was kept to a minimum without much of the fire spreading.
