Update – Cobourg Catholic School Optimistic of Reopening After Christmas Break Following Flood

In Local

St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School issued a notice to staff and families concerning a flood on Christmas Eve.

In the early hours of Christmas Eve, Cobourg Police on patrol spotted a large pool of water in the playground at the school.

Cobourg Fire Department were notified for access to the school and quickly found out there was approximately 10-inches of water in the lower portion of the school including offices, classrooms and the gymnasium.

“The cause of the flooding has been identified as a water main that entered the school. Repairs to the leak have been completed, along with remediation of affected areas. Final assessments are now underway.

At this time, we are optimistic that the school will be able to reopen to staff and students as scheduled on Monday, January 5, 2026. We will communicate again once final confirmation has been received.”
