This summer, the Township of Hamilton and much of Northumberland County are experiencing prolonged dry conditions and significantly lower-than-average rainfall. As a result, our Municipal water supply systems are under considerable strain.
Owing to the ongoing drought and pressure on our system, the Township’s Water Operations Department is issuing a Water Ban on all outdoor use for residents of Baltimore and Camborne, as per By-Law (sections 4.2 – 4.4), effective immediately and until further notice.
Please visit our website under the “Resident Services” tab and proceed to the “Water Services” page to review the Water Usage By-Law in full. Familiarity with the By-Law will help ensure compliance and avoid potential fines. This By-Law is enforced during the months of June, July, and August.
The following activities using Municipal water are prohibited:
a) Watering of any new or established lawn, treated or untreated lawn, Municipal parks or traffic islands at any time using any means whatsoever (this applies to portable and programable sprinkling systems)
b) Watering of vegetable, fruit, or flower gardens, plants, trees or shrubs located outside a building
c) Use of any water for recreational purposes such as spray pads, swimming pools, garden ponds or decorative fountains
d) Use of water for washing of any vehicles or any property within the “Residential” zone of the Township of Hamilton
e) Washing down outside areas such as boulevards, driveways, parking lots, sidewalks or patios
Exception:: We recognize the importance of maintaining homegrown food crops and supporting newly planted trees and shrubs. An exception to (b) above is granted for vegetable/fruit gardens and newly planted trees and shrubs. Please refer to section 4.1 of the By-Law for watering restriction times and permitted days based on your civic address:
• Vegetable/fruit gardens and newly planted trees and shrubs may be watered from 7:00 am – 9:00 am or 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm only. We ask that you choose only one of these time slots on your permitted watering day.
• Properties with Municipal addresses ending in an odd number may water on odd-numbered calendar days only. Properties ending with an even number may water on even-numbered calendar days only.
Your cooperation is essential to protect our limited water supply during this dry period.
