Video – Like It or Not – Tourist Season Has Officially Arrived in Cobourg

In Local

Thousands of people flocked to Victoria Beach in Cobourg over the weekend.

Along with the tourists, come the expected problems like parking.

The Charles Street parking lot just east of Division Street there were over $1,000 in fines that went un-ticketed when Today’s Northumberland took a walk through.

The parking lot has 18 spots, but a ticket machine just outside the parking lot has confused visitors every year.

This year a new sign still seems to be confusing for people.

The sign states, “Purchase of pay and display tickets from this machine NOT valid for parking in Charles Street lot.”

The sense of direction for some visitors to Cobourg also seems to be a challenge.

In the span of an hour, five vehicles went the wrong way on Charles Street which is a one-way street.

Even with a heat warning, sun worshippers flocked to the Victoria Beach to enjoy the sun and water.

The four lifeguard stands purchased in 2018 at a cost of $42,000 will remain empty this summer possibly giving a false sense of security to people.

It appears the Cobourg Police Command Post that was located in the southeast corner of Victoria Park Campground will also not be in operation this summer.

The Command Post was removed in 2024 and had been located in the Campground for at least a decade.
