A protest took place in front of MPP Piccini’s Port Hope office on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

Most of group have been protesting the lockdown rules each Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. every Saturday for over two years.

Josh Clausen is one of those protestors and said the group protested outside MPP David Piccini’s office on Wednesday to protest the lockdown measures still in place and to promote the Freedom Convoy that is scheduled to come through on Thursday afternoon.

“I think the convoy is a great thing. It’s finally a group of people that were able to stand up for the rights and freedoms of Canadians. They are the only group that seems to be making a significant impact that the government is afraid of.”

Clausen said the truckers, “are the heartbeat of this Country.”

“Without them, we cannot be connected.”

“So the fact that they are standing up for all of us, I think is very important.”

Clausen concedes there has been inconvenience for over two years with the regulations being imposed by both federal and provincial governments and it hasn’t been the truckers fault – “until this weekend.”

It is a wait and see what happens next after the convoy gets to Ottawa.

“If the government is not willing to listen to the truckers then I guess the next step is to continue to try and find a means to shut them down.”

Protesting in front of Victoria Hall for the last two years, Clausen said there is a lot of support, but also “some nay sayers.”

“We’ve been down there week after week for the last two years. There is nothing that can be said that bothers us anymore. It’s the same arguments that we hear from everybody coming down.”

Unmasked and unvaccinated people are not allowed in certain stores and businesses, but Clausen said, “we’re not the ones making people sick.”

“This has just got to end – it’s silly.”

With images being used comparing truck drivers with soldiers and the Highway of Heroes promoting the Freedom Convoy, Clausen does take a stand.

“I think the truckers are their one section and I think the military is a different section.”

“We’ve had a lot of support coming out of the military and a lot of support from the truckers. If they want to get together and use each other’s images – go for it. But I think they are two separate entities right now.”

There is the possibility that trucks will exit at County Road 28 to re-fuel at Easton’s Service Centre, but no confirmation.

Ottawa Police Acting Deputy Chief Trish Ferguson said online during a Police Services Board meeting on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, said it will be a “significant and extremely fluid event that could go on for a prolonged period.”
