Video – Rain Brings Salmon—and Anglers—to Port Hope

In Local

With a deluge of rain falling across the area in recent days, conditions are shaping up for the annual salmon run in Cobourg and Port Hope.

The increased water levels in local rivers and creeks can help salmon make their way upstream, and in Port Hope, anglers were already taking advantage of the conditions Monday.

A number of fishermen were positioned along the banks of the Ganaraska River around the Walton Street area, keeping a close eye on the water and waiting for the salmon to make their move.

The river remains a little high following the recent rainfall, but that didn’t appear to discourage the anglers.

Some seemed to have found the right bait and were patiently working the river, hoping to hook one of the salmon making their way upstream.

For anglers, the next few weeks can be an exciting time along the Ganaraska as the salmon run builds—and the recent rain may have provided just the push the fish needed to get moving.
