Cobourg Public Library is Now a Distribution Point for Period Promise Northumberland.

In Community, Local

Cobourg Public Library is now a distribution point for Period Promise Northumberland.

They recently joined to support the local partnership between Northumberland United Way and Thrive: Northumberland Coalition to End Violence Against Women to support women in our community who need access to period products.
Collaboratively, we are aiming to address the issue of period poverty in our community while increasing access to products for anyone who experiences a period.

If you are in need of menstrual products, you will now find them in the women’s washroom off of the Cobourg Public Library foyer.

Periods are a fact of life and so is the need for menstrual products. Sadly, many people cannot afford them. Almost one-quarter of Canadian women say they have struggled to afford menstrual products for themselves or their children (Plan International, Period Stigma Report, 2018).

Period Promise Northumberland believes that no one should have to choose between buying groceries to feed their family and being able to afford basic hygiene products. Although for many people, this is a reality.

With the support of local business partners such as Nurturing Health Naturopathic Clinic and Nourish Boutique Spa as well as the support of our dedicated Community Action Group, Period Promise Northumberland is working to make fundamental change to eradicate period poverty in our community.
