In his 21st NHL game, Port Hope’s Owen Beck scored the first goal of his career during a 4-0 win for the Montreal Canadiens over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night in Montreal.

Beck found the back of the net against Penguins starter Stuart Skinner late in the first period to give Montreal a 2-0 lead at the time.

Saturday was the 21-year-old’s eighth time in the lineup for the Canadiens this season. He recorded his first NHL point last season in 12 games last season with Montreal, which drafted him 33rd overall in 2022.

Beck began his minor hockey journey with the former Port Hope Phantoms and ended it with the Quinte Red Devils AAA program before being drafted to the Ontario Hockey League by the Mississauga Steelheads. He later won an OHL championship with the Peterborough Petes and a Memorial Cup with the Saginaw Spirit.

Beck made the jump to pro hockey last year, including 64 regular season games and 10 playoff contests with the AHL’s Laval Rocket in addition to his time with the Canadiens.

This season, Beck has played 22 games for Laval. During two seasons with the Rocket he has registered 18 regular season goals and 37 assists.
