Update – Northumberland OPP – Confirmed Fatality at House Fire in Brighton

(MUNICIPALITY OF BRIGHTON ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently on scene of structure fire that was reported shortly after 3:30 am on January 29, 2021, at a residence on Old Wooler Road between Lord Road and Grosjean Road.

The Municipality of Brighton Fire Department with the assistance of Cramahe Township Fire Department and the Trent Hills Fire Department, battled the blaze that was already fully engulfed upon their arrival.

Once the fire was completely extinguished investigators located human remains within the structure. The identity of the victim is unable to be confirmed at this time.

The Northumberland OPP Major Crime Unit are currently investigating the incident with the assistance from the Central Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS), the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and the Office of the Chief Coroner.

The scene is currently being held by the OPP as the circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation.
