Investigators with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office wrapped up their on-site investigation on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 into the cause of a fire that destroyed the Golden Rooster Restaurant in Colborne.
The fire engulfed the restaurant after it was reported at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021.
OFM Investigators including Jason Williams, Kevin Stuart and Mike Rushton were on scene for the last three days looking to find the origin and cause of the blaze.
A excavator was also on site pulling out what was left of the walls.
On Tuesday, January 26, 2021, the excavator lifted out large pieces of burned debris that was inside the perimeter of the building in the basement.
The excavator would then remove a small amount of debris and place it where the three investigators worked painstakingly sifting through it with garden-hoes looking for any evidence.
It appears the fire could have been much worse for the community as it’s believed two windows at the Town Hall which is located beside the restaurant were cracked due to the intense heat.
Northumberland OPP are also continuing their investigation.
A number of detectives went door to door on Sunday asking for any information from people around the area.
If anyone has information concerning the fire call their nearest OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
