Cobourg Police – Incidents Include Intimate Partner Violence, Port Hope Man Charged with Evading Police (No Names Released)

In Police Blotter

A 39-year-old man is facing charges after an investigation into intimate partner violence.

On March 26, 2026, police opened an investigation after receiving a report of a historical sexual assault that occurred in the Town of Cobourg in 2023.

As a result of the police investigation, on April 2, 2026, a 39-year-old man was arrested and charged with sexual assault. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

Cobourg Police Service reminds everyone that there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences, and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence. A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. Police encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police.

A Port Hope man is facing charges after an attempt to evade police during a traffic stop in Cobourg.

On March 29, 2026, while on patrol in the Division Street area, officers observed a vehicle with a broken headlight and a heavily damaged windshield. Police initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle pulled a U-turn and fled at high speed, shutting off its lights to evade police. Officers identified the driver and obtained licence plate information before discontinuing attempts to stop the vehicle due to public safety concerns.

On Saturday, April 4, 2026, with the assistance of the Port Hope Police Service, the driver, a 35-year-old Port Hope man, was arrested and charged with Flight from a Peace Officer and Dangerous Operation. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
