Breaking News – Man Admits To Not Abiding By Quarantine While In Cobourg

In Editor Choice, Local

A man from Montreal admitted to breaking the 14-day quarantine after arriving back in Canada and stopping in the parking lot of Walmart with six other recreational vehicles in Cobourg on Monday, March 23, 2020.

The individual was outside his camper when Today’s Northumberland stopped and asked him a few questions.

Numerous people contacted Today’s Northumberland asking about the campers that had Quebec and Ontario license plates.

The man stated he had been back in Canada for seven days after the group was in Arizona since January.

They arrived in the parking lot of Walmart and although he said he hadn’t gone into Walmart, he did admit to going into Popeye’s for take-out.

When asked by Today’s Northumberland (who was at least seven metres away from the individual) if he was aware of the 14-day quarantine for people arriving in Canada the man said, “yeah I know that.”

“Because I don’t take my 14-days I’m not supposed to go anywhere?”

“Now I understand.”

“Where do I eat?”

The journey from where the group was in Arizona to the man’s home in Montreal is 3,000 miles he stated.

“I can’t make it in one day.”

When Today’s Northumberland told him he might be putting a lot of people at risk his response was, “maybe I am, but I don’t know.”

The man stated that he’s spending the 14-day quarantine in his camper which is his “home.”

And understood that it was acceptable to get take-out.

‘I know it’s not enough that I’m sorry.”

The group of campers appear to be staying overnight as by 9 p.m. they were still in the parking lot.

Today’s Northumberland contacted MPP David Piccini who spoke about the concern for people from the riding and beyond about the lack of concern for people not in quarantine.
