Major Series Lacrosse season over for Cobourg Kodiaks

In Sports

Six straight losses to conclude the regular season eliminated the Cobourg Kodiaks from Major Series Lacrosse playoff contention.

The final one came 15-4 Sunday evening against the visiting Peterborough Lakers at the Jack Burger Sports Complex in Port Hope as the Kodiaks wrapped up their season with six wins and 13 defeats.

Cobourg was in control of its playoff destiny after a three-game win streak late June into early July had them with a 6-6-0 record, but three of the six late-season losses had big implications.

The Kodiaks twice to the last-place Brampton Excelsiors, which only won three games all season and also failed to beat the Owen Sound North Stars, the team that finished four points ahead of Cobourg to clinch the final playoff spot.

Cobourg also lost to the Oakville Rock, which finished out of the playoffs two points below them in the standings, as well as the league-leading Six Nations Chiefs.

Alex Marinier led the Kodiaks with 26 goals and 54 points in 17 games while Aaron Woods scored 20 goals and had 53 points. Port Hope’s Brock Haley had 18 goals and 18 assists in 11 games.
