Cobourg Closes Play Equipment/Play Structures to Stop the Spread of COVID-19

In Local

Parks will remain open with a strong reminder to utilize social distancing measures.

The Town of Cobourg would like to inform citizens that effective immediately (March 23, 2020) all play equipment and play structures are closed as the entire community practices social distancing in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.

In order to minimize the spread of COVID-19, the Town is posting signage at all parks warning residents to keep their children off all play equipment/play structures. This equipment is not sanitized, presenting a risk to those using the equipment to contract or spread the virus.

Parks have not been closed at this time but citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain social distancing and keep up with handwashing/sanitizing after contact with any type of park equipment, such as benches, crosswalk signals, etc.

“We recognize that a lot of our citizens are visiting playgrounds and I encourage you to please help your community stop the spread of COVID-19 by staying away from them now,” said Mayor John Henderson for the Town of Cobourg. “At the same time I want to remind everyone of social distancing and keeping up with handwashing/sanitizing. Please take the extraordinary precautions needed to help us get through these extraordinary times.”

How to Practice Social Distancing

The fundamental rule of social distancing is to maintain six feet between you and other people and avoid mass gatherings, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

1) Work from home if you can and avoid public transportation when possible.

2) Don’t shake hands.

3) Limit nonessential travel.

4) Skip social gatherings.

5) Don’t go to crowded gyms or restaurants.

6) Go outside, but keep to the six-foot rule, avoid touching public surfaces and wash your hands after going back inside.
