Northumberland OPP – Investigating Death of Inmate at Warkworth Institution

On November 23, 2019, members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of the death of an inmate resulting from an incident at the Warkworth Institution.

Joseph ARCHIBALD, 43, died while in the custody of the federal institution.

The Warkworth Institution is a medium-security prison facility located in the municipality of Brighton, Ontario, between the communities of Meyersburg and Warkworth.

The investigation is being conducted by the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit, with the assistance from Correctional Service Canada and under the direction of Detective Inspector Matt Watson of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
