Breaking News – Inappropriate Comments Made By Contractor Over Radio Does Not Represent Views of MTO

In Local

A Ministry of Transportation official said comments made by a highway maintenance contractor does not reflect the views of the MTO.

Today’s Northumberland listened to audio recorded on Monday evening (November 11, 2019).

“There’s traffic lined-up eastbound at the service centre,” states the audio.

“It’s blocked. There is a bus on the side of the third leg at the service centre. I don’t know what to say. It looks like maybe their lined up for the Taliban 500 in their and nobody is getting through.”

Regional Communications Coordinator for the Ministry of Transportation Brandy Duhaime, said“Highway maintenance contractors are not Ministry of Transportation (MTO) employees.”

At least two people called MTO to voice their concerns about the audio.

Duhaime said as part of the contract, maintenance workers use a frequency and equipment supplied by the Ministry of Transportation for radio communication.

“The comment made by a member of our contractor’s staff does not in any way reflect the views of our Minister or our ministry,” Duhaime stated in an e-mail to Today’s Northumberland.

“We have discussed this matter with our contractor and have been advised that they will address it with their staff, as they deem appropriate.”
