Cobourg Collegiate Institute Shows How They Are Making Their Mark

In Community

”How will you make your mark?” was the motto for CCI for Change.

Students in the student leadership class at Cobourg Collegiate Institute held the fourth annual CCI for Change on November 7th, 2019.

This event shows the students of the school, the town of Cobourg and members of the school board how the school groups are making their mark to the school, community, and the world.

They had their Environmental Club, Africa Trip, Interact Club, Cheer Her On, GSA, and the Indiginous Classes.

These clubs had a few minutes to share with everyone how they are making their mark.

In the afternoon it was quite similar but with some of the elementary schools in the area sharing with each other how they are making their mark.

After the school groups spoke the keynote speaker, Sam Demma spoke on how he has made his mark.

Sam talked about how he wished and planned on how he was going to be a professional soccer player but that changes after he had surgery on his knee.

He then talked about his initiative on how he made a change.

But before he told us he said “Small Consistent Actions” and left that with us for a bit.

After that he began to tell us how he was making a small consistent action.“Pick Waste” he said.

This is something that Sam has co-founded. “Pick Waste” is something that helps pick up garbage around his community.

As Sam said “the name comes from where I am from and what we are doing. Pick is short for Pickering and we picked up garbage so we called ourselves Pick Waste.”
