Update: Man Accidentally Struck By Train In Port Hope

On November 18, 2018 at approximately 4:00pm, emergency services including officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a train near Haskill Road in the Municipality of Port Hope.

A 33 year old male from Port Hope, Ontario was out looking for his dog when he was struck by a Canadian National Railway (CN) train travelling eastbound near Haskill Road between Lakeshore Road and Marsh Road. The victim was transported from the scene by air ambulance to a Toronto area trauma centre with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

An emergency stop train order was put into effect but was lifted a short while later.

As of 9 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2018, the dog which is a Box/Lab mix was still missing.

 

A man was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre after it’s believed he was accidentally struck by a train in the municipality of Port Hope on November 18, 2018.
At approximately 4 p.m. emergency crews responded to the CN crossing of Haskill Road west of Port Hope.
Reports indicate a man was looking for his dog east of the crossing and was struck by a eastbound train that was approximately three kilometres long..
The victim was thrown into the north ditch approximately 200 metres east of the crossing, but was conscious and indicated he was searching for his dog. The man was walking on the outside of the tracks and said he thought the freight train was travelling on the other rail.
Northumberland County Paramedics, Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services and Northumberland OPP responded to the scene.
An air ambulance landed in a field nearby where the victim was loaded and taken to a Toronto hospital.
There is no update on the man’s condition.
