Food Bank Grateful for Generous Community in Monthly Cram-A-Cruiser

In Community, Local

It was another successful Cram-A-Cruiser thanks to Cobourg Police, Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank and the community.

On Sunday, March 19, 2023 both services joined together and held a food drive at Walmart in Cobourg.

Shortly after 4 p.m. members of the Cobourg Police Service and Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank unloaded the items at Food Bank’s location on D’Arcy Street.

Volunteers with the Cobourg Lions Club were waiting to help the others offload the food.

Dick Kauling, who is Vice-Chair of the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank said the success of the program is thanks to the police and the community.

“They (police) help create an interest in the community and the community continues to be generous in its donations to the organization.”

“Obviously at this time with food inflation and food insecurity are demand is higher than it’s ever been.”

With Cobourg Police holding the Cram-A-Cruiser at various locations each month, “it keeps it visible to the community and helps keep our shelves full and our neighbours fed.”

Staff from Walmart were even volunteering at the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank a few weeks ago.

“We’re always looking for help from the community. Both in food and in finances and in volunteers.”

The days total wasn’t counted, but Kauling said he thought the total food collected would be over 1,500 pounds and there was also hundreds of dollars collected.

“It’s a caring community and that gives us the opportunity to support the community.”
