Video – Northumberland County Explains Why Lights Remain On at New Golden Plough Lodge

In City Hall, Local

Residents have been asking why the lights appear to be on around the clock at the new Golden Plough Lodge.

According to officials, the building is in the final stages of readiness before residents move in, with staff and subcontractors working at all hours to complete remaining work while ensuring the facility meets all Ministry requirements.

The lights that were visible throughout the winter and early spring were the result of an issue with a number of permanent light fixtures that required replacement. While waiting for the replacement fixtures to arrive, temporary lighting was installed.

Unlike the permanent lighting system, the temporary wireless lights did not allow individual fixtures to be switched off, resulting in many areas of the building remaining illuminated continuously.

Those fixtures have now been replaced, allowing lights in individual rooms to be turned off as designed. Officials also noted the building’s lighting system is currently undergoing a comprehensive programming review to ensure everything is operating properly before occupancy.

Security is another reason some lights remain on. At approximately 200,000 square feet, the new Golden Plough Lodge is a large facility that is not yet occupied by residents. Maintaining lighting in portions of the building is part of the County’s risk mitigation and security measures while the facility remains vacant.
