Update – Cobourg Police – Three Special Constables Tested Positive for COVID-19

Today’s Northumberland has learned the three members of the Cobourg Police Service that have tested positive for COVID-19 are Special Constables.

On Saturday, February 6, 2021, Cobourg Police issued a press release stating a staff member had tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, February 4.

Two other staff tested positive as a result.

Cobourg Police Communications Coordinator Lisa Munday told Today’s Northumberland the reason the public wasn’t informed immediately when the service found out is they were following their “contingency plan.”

“We are following our contingency plan and public health advice and updating the public as the situation evolves. We did not inform the public on Thursday as there was one person involved, and there was no community contact.”

Munday advises the Special Constables were not assigned to frontline duties where they would be interacting with the community.

“The individuals were not scheduled for front line duties in the community. Through contact tracing, anyone who may have come into contact with any of the three individuals have been notified with instructions to self-monitor for any symptoms and, as directed, self-isolate and seek testing.  We were in contact with the Health Unit again today, and they will be providing us with next steps.”

At this point, Munday states, no one is in quarantine.

“The three individuals who have tested positive are self-isolating. A small number of staff who had been in close contact with the individuals have either been tested or are scheduled for COVID tests and self-isolated as a precaution at this time. Everyone is self-monitoring.”
