Cobourg Police is working with the HKPRD Health Unit to minimize risk
Three Cobourg Police Service (CPS) staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Unit has been notified, and CPS is working to take all precautions necessary to protect staff members and the community.
Cobourg Police Service became aware of a staff member who received a positive COVID-19 test result on Thursday, February 4. Through case and contact tracing, two additional COVID-19 cases have been detected at this time.
“We activated our contingency plan when we were informed of the first positive case. We are working with the Health Unit to ensure we are taking the necessary precautions to minimize any risk. Anyone who may have come into contact with any of the three individuals have been notified with instructions to self-monitor for any symptoms and, as directed, self-isolate and seek testing. Enhanced cleaning protocols have been put in place, and scan in procedures and PPE protocols remain active,” said Chief Paul VandeGraaf, Cobourg Police Service.
Cobourg Police Service members continue to be diligent in helping to limit the spread of COVID-19. In staff communications, members have been reminded of the importance of continuing to adhere to the appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times, to stay home from work if feeling ill, and to seek testing as appropriate.
There has been no disruption in CPS service delivery. Front line officers continue to respond to calls and community members continue to be encouraged to take advantage of the online services available through the Cobourg Police Service website. The station remains closed to the public. An accessible phone for contacting police is still in place at the top of the accessibility ramp on the station building’s east side.

“I want to reassure the public that there is no impact on our service delivery, and our front line officers in the community will be responding to calls as usual. Other services can be accessed online or by calling the station.
Our priority is to support our members, respect their privacy and the privacy of their families while ensuring that all precautions are taken to reduce the risk to other staff and the public,” says VandeGraaf.
Cobourg Police Service urges everyone to take precautions to help minimize the risk of the spread of COVID-19 by continuing to:
• Take a COVID-19 self-assessment before heading out of the house
• Maintain physical distance whenever possible
• Wear a mask or face covering when physical distancing is not possible or required
• Wash hands frequently
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
• Stay home from work if feeling ill
