Former Cell Tower Shelter Installed As Warming Room at Castleton Sports Club

In Community, Editor Choice, Local

Volunteers with the Castleton Sports Club were out on Saturday, October 31, 2020 installing a main feature to the facility.

The Club was given a former cell tower shelter (12’x28’ building c/w heating and air conditioning) which will serve as a warm room for the skaters to provide a safe area to get in out of the wind and put there skates on.

The building was donated, the transportation of the structure has been provided by another, the 125 ton crane also donated.

All three donors are from Toronto and have heard about the work that the Sports Club does for the kids and the community and are very excited to be part of this.

The machines arrived in Castleton at the fields Saturday morning and the building was in place by 10 a.m.

Even with COVID-19 and proper social distancing the Club feels they can provide ice this winter for everyone.

A Ontario Trillium Grant of $140,500.00 allowed lighting to be installed on a baseball diamond.

The extra lighting will allow the Club to light up 40,000 square feet of ice this year which will be three full size ice pads.

This investment allows the club to support ball leagues in the evening hours and above all support extra ice surfaces in the winter months.
