Emergency services were called on Saturday, March 24, 2018 to an unusual rescue.

A raccoon was stuck in skateboard area of Kennedy Park on Saskatooon Avenue in Campbellford around 11:30 a.m.

It’s believed the animal had been in trapped in the park for the night and was huddling by leaves likely to stay warm.

Northumberland OPP were initially called and tried to coax the animal, but it wasn’t able to climb up the concrete walls of the skateboard park to free itself.

Trent Hills Fire Department was called and wearing proper equipment they managed to cover and lift the animal free of the park.

The raccoon didn’t seem injured as it didn’t seem to want to stay around to give thanks.
