Brighton Councillor Bobbi Wright has officially entered the race to become the Municipality of Brighton’s next mayor, announcing she will seek the office in the October 2026 municipal election.
Wright, a local entrepreneur, community advocate and current member of Brighton Council, said her decision follows months of conversations with residents and a growing belief that the municipality is at an important point in its future.
“Serving on Council has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” Wright said. “It has given me the opportunity to listen, learn, and work alongside residents, businesses, volunteers, municipal staff, and my fellow councillors to move our community forward. Those conversations have inspired me to take this next step because I believe Brighton’s best days are still ahead.”
Wright said public service has always been centred on people, whether that means meeting with residents, supporting local businesses, attending community events or working through difficult decisions at the council table.
She said the best outcomes come from listening first, asking thoughtful questions and working collaboratively to find practical solutions.
During her current term on council, Wright said she has worked to support local businesses, advocate for residents and ensure the municipality’s rural communities have a strong voice in decisions affecting Brighton’s future.
With the municipality continuing to grow, Wright said balancing new opportunities with responsible planning will be a key priority.
“Brighton is growing. We’re welcoming new families, attracting investment, and creating new opportunities,” she said. “Growth is exciting, but it also brings important decisions about housing, infrastructure, finances, and the services residents rely on every day. We have an opportunity to plan responsibly while protecting the character and sense of community that make Brighton such a special place to call home.”
Wright said she believes the mayor’s role is to lead with integrity, encourage respectful dialogue and build consensus around decisions that serve the community’s long-term interests.
“I’ve never believed leadership is about having all the answers,” she said. “It’s about listening carefully, bringing people together, making informed decisions, and never losing sight of the people we’re here to serve.”
If elected, Wright said her campaign will focus on responsible growth, sound financial stewardship, supporting local businesses, investing in infrastructure and community amenities, improving communication and transparency, and ensuring Brighton remains a welcoming place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
Over the coming months, she plans to meet with residents across the municipality to hear their priorities and share her vision for Brighton’s future.
“I believe the strongest leaders don’t lead from the top; they lead alongside their community,” Wright said. “That means listening before deciding, welcoming different perspectives, and bringing people together to solve problems. As Mayor, my commitment is to lead with respect, openness, and a genuine willingness to hear every voice, always putting Brighton first.”
