Northumberland County Assures Residents They Are Fully Stocked For Winter Maintenance

In Community, Weather

Northumberland County is assuring residents there has been no delays on salt orders this year.

“We continued to be well-stocked for our winter maintenance needs,” said Director of Communications Kate Campbell.

“Our Roads team has many tools to combat winter weather.”

County residents may have viewed the Roads Department out at various times on Friday  and Monday morning laying down sand.

“Sand provides traction in freezing rainstorms and lasts longer (salt is added into the sand in this case).”

Salt does not provide traction, but it is typically used to bare the roads after the storm.

The County also often puts down a liquid brine solution in anticipation a bad weather(ice, snow etc).

“This is a special solution that works to prevent snow and ice from taking hold.”

Fifteen County trucks were out sanding before 7 a.m. on Monday morning trying to combat  the frost.  County brine trucks will be out throughout the day.

Campbell says the County has lots of ground to cover so some stretches may not have been done by the time commuters were out this morning.

Side roads are covered by each municipality and township.

The long winter will soon be over, but there will still likely be slippery days ahead and it’s always advisable to drive with cautions during seasonal temperatures.
