The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 205 incidents this past week, here are some examples:
November 5
· A female who resides on Station Road in Alnwick-Haldimand Township reported to police that her mailbox was damaged sometime over the weekend.*
· Officers investigated a domestic dispute in Campbellford involving unwanted text messages from an ex-partner. The involved parties were spoken to, and advice was provided. No charges were laid as a result of the investigation.
· A male reported being attacked by a German Sheppard while walking his dog on Sandy Bay Road in Alnwick-Haldimand Township at approximately 6:15 pm. No injuries were reported. Municipal animal services were notified.*
November 6
· Police attended an apartment building in Brighton just after 8:30 am for a neighbor dispute over excessive noise. Both parties were spoken to and advice given.
· A 56 year old female from Campbellford was charged with fail to stop for a red light under the Highway Traffic Act after police investigated a collision just after 5:00 pm involving 3 vehicles at the intersection of Bridge Street East and Doxsee Avenue. No injuries were reported.
· Officers responded to reports of a vehicle stopped in the fast lane of Highway 401 in Hamilton Township. A female was reported to have been outside of the car flagging people down. The car was found to have run out of gas. The female driver returned with fuel and removed the vehicle from the highway.
November 7
· Just after midnight police responded to a 911 call in Cramahe Township. When officers arrived on scene a female was found to be in distress. As a result of the investigation a 28 year old male from Port Hope, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
– Assault
– Mischief
– Obstruct Peace Officer
– Resist Peace Officer
The accused was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing.
· At approximately 1:00 pm officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver near Garden Hill north of Port Hope. A black pick-up truck with front end damage was described as swerving, and unable to drive in a marked lane. The vehicle was located on County Road 9 just east of County road 28 in Hamilton Township. As a result of the investigation 37 year old Casey LABELLE of Holland Landing, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
– Driving While Ability Impaired (Alcohol and Drug)
– Care or Control over 80 mgs.
– Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample
The accused male was released and is schedule to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on December 5, 2018.
November 8
· Officers are investigating a shop lifting incident that was reported to have occurred on October 27, 2018 from a local business in the town of Brighton. The owner noticed items missing while doing inventory. The suspect(s) are believed to have taken merchandise which included a Kidde 2 in 1 LED strobe light smoke alarm.*
· Police responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township just before 7:00 pm. As a result of the investigation a 79 year old male driver from Oshawa, Ontario was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with operating an unsafe vehicle on a highway. Both vehicles were towed from the scene and only minor injuries were reported.
· Officers assisted in locating and returning a 14 year old male youth to his residence in Brighton. The family reported him missing when he fled from home after he was instructed to clean the garage.
Northumberland OPP officers also investigated 26 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 23 motor vehicle collisions; 40 traffic related complaints and conducted 8 RIDE programs during this time period.
