Upcoming Geotechnical Investigation at Frankford Lock 6

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

Parks Canada is advising the public of a temporary closure of the trail between Frankford Lock 6 and the Highway 33 Bridge upstream of the lock beginning on October 30th. The investigation is expected to take approximately seven to ten business days to complete. The closure is required to safely conduct a geotechnical investigation.

GEMTEC Consulting Engineers and Scientists Limited (GEMTEC) will be carrying out this work, which will involve advancing boreholes using mechanical drilling equipment along the crest and downstream toe of the dam.

Signage and safety barriers will be installed in advance of the work to clearly mark inaccessible areas.

The canal bank will be closed to public access for the duration of the investigation.

This is part of Parks Canada’s ongoing efforts to preserve the heritage and functionality of the infrastructure along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.
