Northumberland Hills Hospital Host First-Year Medical Students for ROMP Week!

In Local

Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) was pleased to collaborate with the Rural Ontario Medical Program (ROMP) for their latest ROMP Week opportunities.

ROMP Week is an opportunity that gives students from Ontario medical schools a chance to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience, while highlighting the medical and geographical benefits of practicing medicine in rural communities like Northumberland County.

We were thrilled to welcome five first-year medical students who had the opportunity to shadow local family physicians while spending time working in multiple hospital departments.

Huge thanks to Drs. Everdell, Cameron, Cornish, Hasan Lebbe, Smith, and Haunts who generously participated as preceptors for the week. Housing for the students was also generously donated by Carly Cunningham and family and Dr. Mark and Linda Essak.

In addition to clinical experience, the week was filled with fun social activities in the evening, which included Dragon Boating, generously donated by the Bruce Bellaire and the Cobourg Dragon Boating Club, a welcome barbecue at the home of Dr. Fraser Cameron and his wife Shelagh Staunton, a show at the Capitol Theatre, and a trivia event with community doctors and students at The Thirsty Goose in Port Hope.

A special thank you to Dr. Emma Smith for organizing another exceptional ROMP Week and helping showcase all that Northumberland has to offer for physicians.
