Port Hope has turned into Derry, Maine for the filming of Largo and fans are turning out to catch a glimpse of the action..
On September 11, 2018 Stephen King paid a visit to Port Hope after flying in to Peterborough airport. It was a guarded secret, but once the rumours started, it was non-stop. Some people said they were thrilled at catching a glimpse of the famous horror flick author in a store where filming was taking place on Walton Street.
It’s rumoured King who wrote the novel in 1986, will have a cameo in Largo which is the follow-up to the first IT movie that grossed $700 million.
Mark Filsinger and Katie Brophy drove from St. Catharines to watch the movie being filmed.
The pair love the first IT movie and had to come see the second one being filmed.
“It’s amazing,” said Brophy.
“We’ve been here most of the day.”
To celebrate, they released 27 red balloons because every 27 years the evil entity Pennywise makes children disappear in Derry.
Both, Filsinger and Brophy were dressed in character hoping for a chance to meet any of the actors or even the author.
Most of what the pair were wearing was makeup and a fake arm cast, but Brophy was showing her love of the movie with a permanent tattoo of a red balloon and the letter “S” crossed out on the word “Loser” replacing it with a red “V” making it “Lover.”
Some stores in the downtown have been altered for the movie, while others are enjoying the Hollywood popularity and dressing up their front windows. Down Lents Lane there are posters of missing children and a mural that had previously been there when the first movie was being filmed in Port Hope.
Stephen King was extremely hard to spot, but action James McAvoy spent most of the day on Walton Street.
During one evening scene, the actor was walking across the street and was nearly hit be a car for the movie.
Filming continues in Port Hope and it appears there may be a fair type atmosphere being set up at Lakeland Place on Queen Street. .
