Town of Cobourg Flags at Half-Staff in Honour of Former Chief Administrative Officer

In Local

Flags across the Town of Cobourg will be lowered to half-staff in honour of the passing of former Chief Administrative Officer, and long time Town employee, Steven Robinson.

It is with great sadness that the Town of Cobourg share the passing of former CAO Steve Robinson on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Steve began his 27-year career with the Town of Cobourg in 1982 as the Director of Finance before accepting the position of CAO in 2000 where he remained for nine years until his retirement in 2009.

As CAO, Steve worked under Mayor, Peter Delanty and supported Council through some of Cobourg’s most revolutionary decisions. Once quoted praising Cobourg Council for being forward-thinking, two projects Steve is remembered for are the transformation of Cobourg’s harbour, seen as one of the most successful brownfield and harbour revitalization redevelopments in Ontario, and the acquisition of the Northam Industrial Park.

“On behalf of Council and staff, we were incredibly sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Steve Robinson,” says Mayor, Lucas Cleveland. “Mr. Robinson was praised as being an exceptional role model, supportive colleague, and innovative thinker whose name is still regularly spoken in our hallways. He helped Council navigate fundamental investments that made Cobourg stronger and more prosperous, and we are humbled by his years of service to this community.”

Serving on many boards throughout his career and into retirement, Steve had a profound mission to contribute to his community and church. On behalf of all staff and Council, the Town
of Cobourg would like to thank Steve’s wife Elspeth, their daughters Andrea and Stefani, grandchildren, and all of Steve’s extended family for the great influence Steve had on our staff
and community. He will be greatly missed.

At the request of the Mayor and CAO, all flags across municipal buildings will be lowered to half-staff until Steve’s memorial service on Thursday, May 9.
