There was hardly a better way to bring the summer to a close than with the sound of bagpipes echoing across Cobourg Harbour as the sun slowly disappeared.
Sunday evening, September 6, 2026 marked the final Piping Down the Sun ceremony of the summer, a tradition that has become a familiar and much-loved part of weekends along the Cobourg waterfront.
Throughout the summer months, members of the Cobourg Legion Pipes and Drums have gathered along the harbour on weekends to continue the long-standing ceremony, drawing residents and visitors who come to listen, relax and take in the spectacular setting.
On Sunday, a lone piper began the ceremony as the sun gradually faded toward the horizon.
As the evening continued, other members of the Pipe Band joined the piper, filling the waterfront with the unmistakable sound of Scottish pipes.
The musicians played a number of songs, including requests from members of the public who had gathered along the harbour to enjoy the final performance of the season.
With the last notes carrying across the water and the final light disappearing from the sky, it was a fitting end to another summer of Piping Down the Sun in Cobourg.
For those who have made the ceremony part of their summer routine, Sunday’s performance was one last chance to gather by the water, listen to the pipes and watch another beautiful Cobourg sunset.
