Durham Region Police – Suspect Charged After Delivery Driver Assaulted at McDonalds (Name Released)

A delivery driver was assaulted after a male suspect made hateful comments in Clarington.

On Saturday, November 1, 2025, at approximately 9:25 p.m., members of East Division responded to an assault call inside a McDonalds located at 2387 Regional Highway 2. The victim was working as a delivery driver when he attended the McDonalds to pick up an order. While inside the restaurant, the suspect made hateful comments toward the victim. Following a verbal altercation, the suspect assaulted the victim. Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect who was taken into custody without incident.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Aaron William LEE, age 41 of No Fixed Address is charged with: Assault, and Uttering Threats.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Investigators are in consultation with the DRPS Hate Crime Unit, as we recognize the impact these incidents can have on our community. Acts that target or instill fear in any group are unacceptable and are taken very seriously. We remain committed to ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of everyone in our community.

Hate crime is not a charge in the Criminal Code of Canada. There are four offences in the Code that specifically pertain to hate. Consultations will take place with the Crown Attorney’s Office to determine whether hate was an aggravating factor. “Hate crime” is not a standalone charge; instead, if a crime is motivated by hate, that factor can be considered during sentencing to increase the severity of the penalty
