Annual Lemon-Aid for Northumberland HIlls Hospital Raises More Than $7,500

In Local

The 4th annual Lemon-AID for Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) program has wrapped up once again. On the afternoon of September 23, 2025, stand hosts came together outside NHH for the announcement of the grand total raised and learned this year was the most successful yet. Thanks to the efforts of the young philanthropists, the young-at-heart, and local businesses, $7,623 was collectively raised for NHH Foundation.

The community’s support for this initiative was on clear display this summer with 18 Lemon-AID stands hosted between the months of July and August. The funds raised will purchase beanie hats to be gifted to patients undergoing Chemotherapy treatment as well as stuffed animals for children who receive care through the Surgical Services program.

Attending the announcement, was Marie, a cancer care patient receiving treatment at NHH, who addressed the crowd and shared a few words describing what the beanies fundraised for mean to her and other patients.

“When I take my medicine to make me feel better, it makes my hair fall out,” stated Marie. “This means on cold days my head gets very cold and on hot days my head can get sunburned.

These hats are the perfect solution and are my favourite, so much so that I even purchased more myself after receiving mine from NHH. Thank you to everyone who helped make these hats possible for patients like me!”

“It was heartwarming to see so many different ages come together to host stands and the amazing community that showed up to support these stands,” reflects Rhonda Cunningham, NHH Foundation CEO. “From the local Fire Departments, Police Departments, to friends and families and even those just walking by. This total would not have been possible without each and every one who stepped up in support!”

Lemon-AID was sponsored by Davis’ Your Independent Grocer in Port Hope, with participants receiving kits inclusive of gift cards to the Independent to kick start their stands. Hosts planned and executed their individual stands on a date of their choosing, then donated the proceeds to NHH Foundation.
