Cobourg Police – Charges Under Cannabis Act

On Thursday, September 11, 2025, police conducted a traffic stop on King Street East in the Town of Cobourg.

Officers discovered cannabis in the possession of a driver under the age of 19.

The cannabis was in its original packaging but had been opened and was within reach of the driver.

Under the Cannabis Control Act, 2019, individuals under 19 are prohibited from possessing any amount of cannabis. Two offence notices were issued in connection with this stop.

Police remind residents of the legal responsibilities associated with the possession and use of controlled substances.

Under the Cannabis Control Act, 2019, individuals under 19 are prohibited from possessing any amount of cannabis. Consuming cannabis and then operating a vehicle is dangerous and illegal.

Cannabis impairs motor skills, reaction time, and decision-making, increasing the risk of accidents.

Drivers are reminded that cannabis must be stored in a sealed package and out of reach while driving.
