Municipality of Port Hope Receives Grant from Enbridge Gas for Climate Action Initiatives

In Local

For the second year in a row, Enbridge Gas is recognizing the Municipality of Port Hope for its leadership in environmental sustainability and climate action, following the adoption of its first Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP).

Through Enbridge Gas’s Municipal Climate Action Offer (MCAO), Port Hope will receive a $10,000 grant to support local climate initiatives that reduce natural gas consumption within municipal boundaries. This funding builds on last year’s support, which helped develop the CCAP, and will now be used to implement targeted strategies that promote energy efficiency, resilience, and community engagement.

“Port Hope is proud to be recognized once again by Enbridge Gas as we continue to take meaningful steps toward climate resilience,” said Olena Hankivsky, Mayor for the Municipality of Port Hope. “Earlier this year, our Community Climate Action Plan was approved in principle by Council – marking an important milestone in our efforts to lower emissions, protect our environment, and build a greener future for generations to come.

We’re committed to turning this plan into action, and the support from partners like Enbridge makes that possible.”

The Community Climate Action Plan, approved in June 2025, is a comprehensive roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support a more resilient, sustainable future for the community. The Plan outlines 17 targeted strategies across key sectors:

Residential, Commercial and Institutional Buildings, Transportation, Community Design and Land-Use Planning, Agriculture and Local Food Systems, Environmental Stewardship, and Waste and Water.

Last year’s MCAO funding helped support the development of the CCAP. With the plan now in place, the 2025 funds will go directly toward implementing strategies within the plan, supporting projects that aim to lower energy use, increase local resilience, and engage the community in sustainable practices.

“We’re proud to support the Municipality of Port Hope as they take meaningful steps to reduce emissions and build a more sustainable future,” said Jessica Baker, Municipal Energy Solutions Advisor, Enbridge Gas. “Through the Municipal Climate Action Offer, we’re helping communities turn plans into progress – backed by funding, expertise, and proven programs that make a measurable difference.”

The Enbridge Gas Municipal Energy Solutions team connects Ontario municipalities with actionable solutions that can help reduce emissions and operating costs. From conservation programs to renewable fuel options and emerging technologies, the MCAO grant empowers municipalities like Port Hope to move forward with impactful initiatives that benefit both the environment and the local economy.
