Belleville Police Service – Incidents Include Drug Arrest, Fail to Comply, Animal Cruelty (Names Released)

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 339 calls for service beginning at 5:00 am on July 4, 2025 to 5:00 am on July 7, 2025.

Drug Arrest
On July 4th at approximately 10:45pm, Belleville Police officers on foot patrol observed a group of people loitering at city hall. When officers approached the scene, they could see one of the males was in possession of crystal methamphetamine. Upon further investigation, officers also located fentanyl. As a result, Tyler Bonter, 40-year-old Belleville resident, was arrested and charged with:

· Two counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance

· One count of breach of probation

He was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in August 2025.

Failure to Comply
On July 5th, at approximately 2:50am, Belleville Police on general patrol observed a vehicle driving on North Front St. with no lights on. The officer conducted a traffic stop and observed the driver showing signs of impairment. He was transported to Belleville Police Station. As a result of the investigation,

Robert Hubbs, 31-year-old Ameliasburgh resident, was arrested and charged with failure to comply with a demand. He was released with an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in August 2025.

Animal Cruelty
On July 5th at 10:35am, Belleville Police assisted Animal Welfare Officers with an investigation into an animal complaint. Upon investigation, police discovered that a male had beaten and choked a dog the previous day. As a result, Samuel Earle, 28-year-old Belleville resident, was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury.

The dog was seized and taken into Animal Welfares custody and will be placed in a safe home following any medical treatment.

Earle was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in August 2025.

Animal Complaint
On July 5th at 12:55pm, Belleville Police responded to a report at Victoria Park regarding a man strangling geese. Officers attended the area and located a male along with a recently deceased goose. As a result, a 48-year-old male of no fixed address was charged under the Migratory Birds Convention Act. The Charge comes with a fine of $490 for a first offence and can be as high as $15,000 for subsequent offences.

Domestic Assault
On July 5th at 12:56pm, Belleville Police responded to call downtown regarding a domestic dispute. As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old female from Belleville was arrested and charged with:
· Domestic assault
· Breach of a court order

She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Break and Enter, Theft, Failure to Stop for Police – Image Released
On July 6th at 6:52am, Belleville Police responded to a report of a break and enter at a business on South Church St. Upon arrival, officers learned that between 3:00am and 6:00am, an unknown person smashed the front window and stole two motorcycles: a black Kawasaki and a silver Kawasaki. Officers in the area located one of the motorcycles and attempted to stop it without success.
Later in the morning, Belleville Police responded to a report of theft of gas at a North Front St. gas station that happened at approximately 5:45am. The suspect was operating a silver motorcycle with no license plate. This motorcycle was observed driving east bound on Old Hwy 2 at Point Anne on CCTV at 10:37am.

A male suspect is wanted by police for: break and enter, theft over $5000, dangerous driving, and failure to stop for police. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cst. Huppee at 613-966-0882 X 4247 or ghuppee@Bellevilleps.ca.

Motor Vehicle Collision and Failure to Comply
On July 6th at approximately 7:00pm, Belleville Police responded to a report of a collision on Dundas St E. Upon arrival, police learned that a male driver had hit the females vehicle and then left the area. He was suspected of driving while impaired. As a result of the investigation, police located, arrested, and charged Mark Brough, 52-year-old Belleville resident, with failure to comply with a demand. He is scheduled to appear in court in August 2025.
