Domestic incident leads to attempt murder charge for Ottawa man
On Friday, May 30th at 5:03pm, Belleville Police responded to a residence in the city’s east end for a complaint of a domestic dispute. Upon their arrival, police clearly heard an ongoing altercation inside the residence and immediately became concerned for the safety of those involved. Police forcibly entered the residence and had to contend with the door being intentionally barricaded with a couch. Once inside, the officers made observations and learned information which formulated their grounds to arrest a 28-year-old Ottawa man for:
1. Uttering threats to cause death
2. Forcible confinement
3. Assault
4. Failing to comply with a probation order
5. Overcoming resistance – choking
Members of the Belleville Police Criminal Investigations Division continued the investigation into the incident. Following their investigation, a further charge of attempt murder was added as information was learned that the suspect had attempted to drown the victim.
The male was held for a bail hearing. The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
Police investigation into numerous incidents of harassment and mischief leads to the arrest of a 26-year-old Belleville man
Between the 25th and 29th of May 2025, the Belleville Police Service received 14 complaints of public mischief, harassment and uttering threats that all appeared to be related. Members of the Belleville Police Criminal Investigative Division led the investigation. Examples of the incidents included over 50 fraudulent requests for taxi services, false food deliveries, fraudulent requests for a tow truck and posting on social media platforms that individuals were in imminent danger including being held against their will at gun point at specific locations which required an immediate police response utilizing extensive police resources. Through their comprehensive investigation, police were able to identify a suspect. On the 31st of May, members of the Criminal Investigations Division with the assistance from the Emergency Response Unit executed a search warrant at an address in the city’s west end. Police arrested 26-year-old Sean Jordan MacDonald of Belleville without incident. MacDonald was charged with:
1. Public Mischief
2. Mischief – interfering with the victims’ lawful enjoyment of their property
3. Criminal Harassment
4. Uttering Threats X 2
MacDonald was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Tweed man arrested after violent incidents
On the 31st of May at 7:35pm, Belleville Police received a request from Belleville Fire and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics to attend a residence in the city’s east end after a 72-year-old female victim had been located outside suffering from significant head trauma. As a result of the injuries, the female was transported to the Kingston General Hospital with life threatening injuries. An investigation was initiated by members of the Belleville Police Uniform Division and Criminal Investigations Division. Belleville Police were able to identify a suspect and an associated vehicle who had fled prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. During their investigation, police identified a second adult female victim. Police learned that she was the victim of on-going criminal harassment by the same suspect. Initially, police were unable to locate the suspect. Later in the evening, Belleville Police received an unrelated call back to the same residential area as the initial call. When they arrived, police observed the suspect that they had been looking for in his vehicle. Police initiated a high-risk vehicle stop. The suspect vehicle stopped momentarily. During the attempted arrest, the suspect placed his vehicle into reverse and intentionally rammed a police vehicle causing extensive damage. Police were able to take the 50-year-old male from Tweed into custody. Police located a loaded hunting rifle on the passenger seat of the suspect’s vehicle. The police officer in the damaged cruiser was taken to the Belleville General hospital for precautionary assessment. The Tweed man was held for a bail hearing. He was charged with:
1. Operation while impaired
2. Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
3. Aggravated assault
4. Criminal Harassment
5. Possession of Weapon
6. Assault with a weapon
7. Assault peace officer
8. Careless use of Firearm
9. Unauthorized Possession of a firearm
10. Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victims. The 72-year-old victim remains in Kingston General Hospital with life threatening injuries.
