Cobourg council has agreed to requests from Town Crier Mandy Robinson to declare July 14 International Town Crier Day in the Town of Cobourg.

She also requested that this recognition be extended to become an annual event, and that the town create a video to share on-line advising everyone of the importance of Town Crier Day (and stated her willingness to be involved in that project).

As such proclamations are typically made only one year at a time, Mayor Lucas Cleveland made the motion to observe it only the next two years on the second Monday in July.

As for the video, he characterized that as “a social media-Instragram one-or-two-minute video that staff will create to recognize this day as significant to the town.
