Cameco Supports Student Nutrition Programs in Northumberland

In Local

Northumberland Food For Thought (NFFT) is once again the recipient of Cameco’s generous spirit of community giving. Through its community sponsorship program—which focuses on youth, education and literacy, health and wellness, and community development—Cameco has donated $5,000.00 to support local Student Nutrition Programs. This funding will help schools across Northumberland County purchase healthy foods, so students can start their day nourished and ready to learn.

For many years, Cameco has been a dedicated supporter of Northumberland Food For Thought and its efforts to support Student Nutrition Programs in Northumberland. “Cameco’s investment plays a vital role in ensuring that children and youth across our county have access to nutritious food at school. We truly appreciate this continued partnership and commitment to our community,” says Beth Kolisnyk, member of NFFT and CDC for SNP-Central East.

“Student nutrition programs are vital to ensuring children and youth receive the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and thrive,” said Dale Clark, vice-president of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division. “Cameco is proud to support the work of Northumberland Food For Thought and their efforts to make a positive difference to the health and well-being of all students.”

NFFT is the non-profit partnership that supports Student Nutrition Programs at schools across the region. These programs are free and voluntary, providing food to thousands of students in the area every day. “Research shows that Student Nutrition Programs can help support student academic success by removing a major obstacle to learning—hunger,” adds Kimberly Leadbeater, Registered Dietitian with HKNP District Health Unit and Chair for Northumberland Food For Thought.

Along with the support of residents, businesses and organizations, local Student Nutrition Programs also receive financial support from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) through its lead local agency, Peterborough Child and Family Centres.
