Video – Cobourg Police Service Reflects on Community Feedback

In Local, Police Blotter

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, the Cobourg Police Service (CPS) held a community Town Hall at the Lions Centre in the Town of Cobourg. This engagement is crucial as we strive to enhance our services and better meet the needs of our residents. The active participation and collaboration of residents is instrumental in fostering a safer and more connected community.

CPS will be delving into the feedback heard over the last few weeks from residents and the questions and comments received at last night’s Town Hall to identify opportunities for improvement and greater impact on community safety. Some of the initial themes identified from the town hall event include:

• More visibility in neighbourhoods

• Timely follow-up on inquiries and non-violent minor crimes

• Clarification of the role of police

• Increased transparency

“As we concentrate on our primary responsibilities as police, it is essential to balance enforcement with
empathy. We recognize the significant impact of the past 15 months on our community and our members. We are collectively seeking a better path forward,” said Chief Paul VandeGraaf.

“This is just the first reflection on what we have heard from residents. We will be debriefing with the team to align strategies already underway and find solutions that meet community expectations and the requirements under the new Act’s while being sustainable and within our capacity. Strengthening our relationship with the community and enhancing the trust they place in us is our top priority as we strive to meet the expectations set before us.”
