Video – Community Donates to Food Bank in Appreciation of Port Hope Halloween Display

In Editor Choice, Local

The Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank stopped by a Port Hope home to pick up a van load of non-perishable food items collected from a Halloween display.

The home of Tim Robinson and Laura Farmer located at 4 Payne Crescent brought people not only from Port Hope but other areas like Markham, Peterborough, Bowmanville and Grafton to view their display.

For anyone who wished to contribute a box, complete with a skeleton was placed near the curb for any donations.

At 3 p.m. on Halloween, Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank Executive Director Meghan Flindall stopped by the home to collect the items donated.

Looking at the items completely covering the dining room table Flindall said, “I am blown away.”

Tim told her that once the display was set-up he thought of the food drive for people interested in donating items.

“Flindall said even where the couple placed the box for people to donate on the front yard was perfect.

“Then walking into what is hundreds of pounds of food is unbelievable – especially at this time of year.”

“It’s somebody who cares, somebody who wants to give back to their community and somebody who saw an opportunity and stepped up,” Flindall said about the couple.

Tim said he already has thoughts on the display for next year and promises it will be bigger and better.

Along with the van load of items, there was over $100 in cash donated to the Food Bank.
