Durham Region Police – 13-Year Old Male Arrested After Police Seize Firearm

A 13-year-old male is facing charges after police seized a firearm during an investigation at an Ajax hotel.

On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, officers from West Division responded to an unknown trouble call at a hotel in the area of Westney Road South and Bayly Street West.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a male armed with a knife and took him into custody without incident. During the investigation, officers received information that the suspect may have been in possession of a firearm. With the assistance of the DRPS K9 Unit, officers conducted a search of the property.

Investigators subsequently located and seized a firearm.

A 13-year-old male from Ajax is charged with: Carry Concealed Weapon; Unauthorized Possession of Restricted Firearm; Possess Loaded Restricted Firearm; Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Device; Possess Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace x2 Possess Firearm While Prohibited x3; Fail to Comply with Release Order x2 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order x4.

He was held for a bail hearing.

At the time of his arrest, the accused was bound by multiple release orders, including a weapons prohibition order.
