Hastings Residents Celebrate $100,000 Encore Win

In Local

Saying “yes” to ENCORE paid off for Gale and Peter Lachaine of Hastings. They matched the last six of seven ENCORE numbers in exact order in the May 24, 2024 LOTTO MAX draw to win $100,000!
Gale and Peter, married retirees, have been playing the lottery with OLG for decades. They always play together and make sure to add ENCORE to all their tickets.

It was Gale who went into the store to check their ticket. “After scanning it on the ticket checker, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Gale recalled, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect their winnings. “I had to check it a couple of times to make sure. I ran outside to tell Peter, who was waiting in the car. I was screaming, ‘We won! We won!’”

“I went into the store and was in disbelief,” said Peter. “About a month or so before our win, I said we should start buying our tickets elsewhere. It’s a good thing we didn’t,” he chuckled.

For the time being, Gale and Peter plan to save their winnings. “We’re at a loss for words. This has been so shocking and exciting. We are so happy,” they concluded.

ENCORE offers 22 ways to win and can be played in conjunction with most lottery games for an extra $1. There are two ENCORE draws every day.

The winning ticket was purchased at Hastings C-Store on Bridge Street in Hastings.
