Investment frauds and schemes
Belleville police would like to remind the public to be vigilant when considering investing in a new company, currency or program – especially if the only contact is via an online form.

With financial frauds and internet scams abundant in every community across Canada, please consider the following tips:

· Verify whether the investment platform or seller appears on the Canadian Securities Administrators’ “Are They Registered?” list, and cross-reference with your provincial securities regulator’s list of unlicensed firms. (List located here: https://www.securities-administrators.ca/registration/are-they-registered/)

· Set realistic expectations. No investment can promise extraordinary profits, particularly if it’s advertised as risk-free and short-term;

· Avoid giving control of your electronic devices to unfamiliar individuals;

· Stay vigilant for other iterations of this scam, including fixed income investment schemes, franchise and business opportunities, gem scams, initial token offerings, and pyramid schemes.
