New Canadians Centre Opens Northumberland Office in Cobourg

In Business, Local

The New Canadians Centre (NCC) celebrated the opening of its Northumberland office at Watton Employment Services with a drop-in open house.

The relocation brings NCC services into a shared space, aimed at strengthening collaboration and making it easier for newcomers to access both settlement and employment supports in one location.

Community members stopped by to meet the NCC team, tour the facility, and connect with local service providers.

“We’re excited to welcome the community into our Northumberland office,” said Jeeniraj Thevasagayam.

“This move helps us work more closely with local services so newcomers can feel at home and succeed.”

Greg Watton said the partnership will improve access to supports. “Co-locating makes referrals easier and helps people access services faster.”

The NCC also used the event to launch a call for volunteers across Northumberland County. Residents are encouraged to get involved by supporting newcomers through English conversation and community connection.

More information about volunteering opportunities is available through the NCC’s upcoming recruitment information session.

The project is funded in part by the Government of Canada. Watton Employment Services is managed by Muskoka-Kawarthas Employment Services and receives funding support from both the federal and provincial governments.
